Kalliope is a speech synthesis module for Olympus. Kalliope can be configured to use one of two speech synthesis systems: SAPI, and Swift. SAPI is the Microsoft-pioneered Speech Application Programming Interface. SAPI voices and an engine are pre-loaded on Windows XP and later machines. Swift and its voices are available from Cepstral.

Compiling

SAPI

When compiling Kalliope, set the preprocessor define: USE_SAPI.

Swift

When compiling Kalliope, set the preprocessor define: USE_SWIFT. One must have the Swift SDK installed in the same directory as the Olympus root.

Configuring

SAPI

SAPI is the default. Nothing special is required. But sapi.cfg must be provided.

Swift

One must purchase and install a Swift voice and, of course, swift.cfg must be provided. Make sure to put the voice name which is purchased.
